Ann Meyers Kaplan

Ann Meyers Kaplan turned 100 years old on March 9, 2007. She was born in New York in 1907 to Louis and Rose Meyers, who had emigrated from Russia just one year earlier. In1910, her family moved to Seattle and settled on Capitol Hill. Her father ran a tailoring business in Pioneer Square from 1915 to 1950. In 1926, Ann graduated from Garfield High School. She married Ben J. Kaplan, and the couple had two children, Maxine Kaplan Schnebele of Mercer Island and Arthur Kaplan of La Conner, Wash. She has one grandson, Henry Honig of Mercer Island. Ann worked as a bookkeeper for Ben’s roofing business and also worked for 20 years at the Bon MarchÌ© in downtown Seattle as a sales clerk. In her long life, she has been involved with many Jewish organizations, including the Golden Age group at the Stroum Jewish Community Center. Ann’s children threw her a wonderful birthday party at Mercer View Community Center, with 90 people in attendance. Relatives arrived to celebrate from around the country including California, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Montana. She also received a congratulations letters from Bill and Hillary Clinton, whom she admires. Ann has three younger siblings: the late Marion Fingold, the late Sam Meyers, and Jack Meyers, 87, who lives in California. She currently resides at Evergreen Court Retirement home in Bellevue.
