Hadassah, in partnership with Temple B’nai Torah, presents a three-part mini-series, entitled “Discovering your Mishpocha.” This course will teach the basics of genealogy, America’s fastest growing hobby, and how to get started in tracing one’s Jewish family roots.
Participants will learn research tips and techniques, find unknown relatives, create a family tree, and discover ways to preserve priceless family stories. The sessions will be at Temple B’nai Torah on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
On March 19, Sheryl Stern, president of The Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State, will speak about “Sources and Resources of Jewish Genealogy.” On March 26, Arlene Schuster, rabbi, educator and genealogist, will discuss “Oral Interview Techniques and Family Stories.” On April 9, the series will conclude with historian, author and research librarian Deborah Freedman teaching “How to Make a Family Tree: Sharing Research Successes and Frequently Asked Questions.”
