A recognized leader for more than 50 years of community service, Jack J. Spitzer has been named an honorary board member of the Washington Dollars for Scholars organization, which helps communities form scholarship chapters to aid deserving and needy students.
Concerned about increasing his contribution to communal causes, Spitzer became a mortgage banker in 1950 at the age of 33. Though officially retired since 1978, Spitzer is currently chairman of the board of Covenant Mortgage Corporation on Mercer Island, chairman of Gencor Development of Kirkland, chairman of Certified Marketing of New York, and chairman of Vitritek Environmental of Maryland.
“Jack Spitzer is renown in the community for his generosity, kindness and philanthropy. We are honored to have Mr. Spitzer join Washington Dollars for Scholars in our mission to mobilize Washington communities for scholarships,” said state Sen. Ken Jacobsen, chair of the governing board of Washington Dollars for Scholars. Dollars for Scholars is the nation’s largest non-profit scholarship program in the private sector.
Very active in the Jewish community, Spitzer was elected honorary president for life of B’nai B’rith International in 1982 after serving two two-year terms as president of the organization.
