Makena celebrated her Bat Mitzvah on August 11, 2007 at Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Bellevue.
Makena is the daughter of Craig Owens and Tammy Abravanel-Owens of Sammamish. She is the granddaughter of Lela and Jack Abravanel of Bellevue and Lowell and Bonnie Owens of Cashmere, Wash.
Makena will be an 8th-Grader at Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle. She enjoys basketball, volleyball, fishing, water skiing, art, playing on the computer and hanging out with friends. For her mitzvah project, Makena is donating 3 percent of the money she receives from her Bat Mitzvah and other birthdays to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger.
