Norman Aaron Schain died on erev Shabbat, March 9, 2007. He was born on April 27, 1924, the oldest son of Moshe Noah and Ada Schain.
Norman graduated from Garfield High School in 1942 and shortly after was drafted into the Army Air Corps. He served in India and China in signal corps message-relay stations.
After his service, he studied watchmaking at the old Broadway High School, then a technical school. He repaired watches for his uncles Max and Nathan Bender at Burt’s Jewelry at 6th Ave. and Pike St. He later moved his repair bench into his father’s store, Mt. Baker Variety, where he worked until the store closed in 1968. He then worked for the jeweler at the Fred Meyer store in Burien. He was still working half-days until his death.
Norman was predeceased by his brother, Stuart Schain. He is survived by his sisters Belle Abrams of Bainbridge Island and Sylvia Goldenberg of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; brothers Gerald Schain of La Habra, Calif. and Sid Schain of Salem, Ore.; sister-in-law Mary Schain of Boulder, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Norman was a kind and gentle person who was loved and will be missed by all who came in contact with him.
