Programs throughout the Puget Sound region are popping up to provide activities for older adults. One, Endless Opportunities, which was already in existence, has expanded to a new congregation on Mercer Island.
The program combines social, educational and recreational activities and was begun last year as a collaboration between the Jewish Family Service and Temple De Hirsch Sinai. This month, the program began a collaboration with Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation as well.
Past programming has included luncheons with prominent guest speakers and brunch discussion groups facilitated by experts on a variety of topics, as well as day trips, museum tours, nature outings, art classes, walking groups and book groups. These programs occur weekly and monthly. All are free of charge and open to the wider community.
For more information about Endless Opportunities at either synagogue, please contact Ellen Hendin, EO Coordinator, at 206-861-3183 or at endlessopps@

Temple B’nai Torah’s Silver Swingers is an active group of seniors who meet once or twice each month to enjoy outings offered around town and at the temple.
The calendar of events has included lunch and movie dates as well as collaborations with the Jewish Community Center for lunches and speakers. This month, a speaker addressed heath care options for senior living. On Wed., Dec. 5, the group will hold a Hanukkah party, which will include Temple B’nai Torah’s Rabbi Yohanna Kinberg speaking on her life and on becoming a rabbi.
