Hadassah presents: A new year, a new you
Women ages 46-60 are invited to a continental dairy brunch and discussion with Rochelle Schuster, a certified image consultant, who will reveal the secret to creating a look you’ll love. Jewish Summer Camp and Israel Program Fair
Jewish camps from throughout the Northwest and California will come to the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle to answer questions and share information about their respective programs. The fair will feature a variety of day camps and overnight camps for kids of all ages as well as Israel programs. A representative from The Jewish Education Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle will be available to discuss camp scholarship options. Takes place Sun., Jan. 13, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. At the Jewish Day School, 15749 NE 4th St., Bellevue.

Young Jewish Professionals meeting
The recently formed group Young Jewish Professionals is on the lookout for new members. The group is currently comprised of 15 young business professionals who meet for the purpose of networking and passing referrals. Those interested in learning more about YJP are invited to attend the organization’s next meeting on Tues., Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation, 3700 E Mercer Way, Mercer Island. Faith, energy and the environment: An evening with Jay Inslee
Congressman Jay Inslee will read selections from his new book, Apollo’s Fire, about finding solutions to oil dependence and climate change. Representatives from both the local Jewish and Christian communities will join Inslee to share what their respective faiths say about the environment and what should be done to protect it. Inslee will also be available to sign copies of his book at the end of the reading. This event is co-sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Greater Seattle Chapter and Earth Ministry and will take place Thurs., Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at St. John United Lutheran Church, 5515 Phinney Ave. N, Seattle.

Washington State Historical Society annual meeting
The Washington State Historical Society held its annual meeting on Nov. 11, 2007. At the event, Dr. Paul Burstein, Pruzan chair professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Washington, gave a speech on “the Future of American Jewish Historical Societies.”
Long-time community leaders Doris and Ernie Steifel were presented with the Meta Buttnick Award and Dave S. Azose, Kathie Barokas, Olga Butler, Myrna Cordova, David Goldfarb, Julie Mirel, Rabbi James Mirel, Don Silverman, Lucy Spring, Dennis Warshal and Laurie Warshal Cohen were also honored as outstanding volunteers. New officers and board members were elected and installed at the meeting as well.
