Focus elsewhere

I have been a subscriber to the Jewish Transcript/JTNews for over 18 years. Your decision-making regarding two parts of the most recent JTNews (August 18) is highly suspect. First, why do we need to see a picture of the [alleged] gunman on the front page, and second, why do we need to know what this man might face during, hopefully, the rest of his life in prison?

Imagine the horror the families of the victims must feel when their own community newspaper chooses to show a picture of this villain. During a sensitive time when we still have women in the hospital and others who are recovering from the horror at the Federation, you choose to publish an article about the [accused] gunman and the conditions he must now be faced with. On what basis is this ?newsworthy?? The community is still coping with the tragedy and those closest to it are learning daily to cope with their new reality. It is neither important nor relevant to me what may lie ahead for the gunman.

At a time when the victims, their families and our community is moving forward, these two items are clearly out of place and inappropriate.
