of JTNews seeks to explain why Holocaust Remembrance Day “doesn’t touch me.” Aside from this bizarre approach to the deaths of 6 million Jews, I flinched at the hurt it inflicts on the local vanishing survivors and their families.
In this same issue is a news item describing Shoah week on PBS, of a visiting survivor of the Holocaust, Hester Kool, who was 13 when her family in Amsterdam was seized by the Nazis and shipped off to Auschwitz.
If this article was written by just a reader, it would still be bizarre. But that it was written by an assistant editor of a publication financially supported by the Jewish community is — to put it most kindly — ridiculous.
This is not about victimization, which seems to bore Ms. Krow. This is about being aware, of learning the meaning of “Never again, and what to do.” Israel was reborn only through the fierce determination of a decimated people to be strong enough and aware enough to assure “Never again.”
