In response to Mr. Basson’s claim that I “do not realize that both Hamas and Fatah’s charters call for the destruction of Israel in its text,” (Letters, Oct. 15) I wonder why Mr. Basson wrote such a claim as to what I know and don’t know?
I wasn’t born yesterday. And I’ve been aware since I was in high school (1965-68) of the movement of North African and Mid-Eastern born Jews to Israel (and other countries). Regarding this displacement: Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Of the P.A., Fatah, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Hamas and any other organizations or governmental bodies representing Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and rejecting Israeli statehood: So what? This is expected.
Negotiations remain the only proven way to peace. Mr. Basson can applaud Israeli military strikes against Gazan, West Bank and Lebanese military and terror groups year in and year out in letters to the editor, but all sides have failed — miserably so — with military and violent solutions for decades. It’s time for a change.
