Freedom of choice

By Robert and Gail Stagman , , Mercer Island

With all due respect for Rabbi Kletenik, we believe his reasoning on Initiative 1000 (“Life is sacred,” Oct. 17) is misguided. Clergy do not have the moral authority to dictate to others how they will make a personal life decision affecting only themselves. Initiative 1000 is not intended to comply with the wide variety of religious beliefs, but to allow each individual the freedom to make a choice based on that individual’s personal beliefs. Mandating compliance with the beliefs of another person or group is tyranny.
