By Carolyn Cohen and Sally Kinney , Puget Sound Jewish Coalition on Homelessness steering committee, Seattle
The steering committee of the Puget Sound Jewish Coalition on Homelessness thanks JTNews for providing its readers a detailed and very timely account of what our members learned at our December 2 meeting at Temple Beth Am (“Jewish coalition ready to lobby for homeless,” Dec. 7). As the article outlined, PSJCH hopes to play a role in advocating for more housing and services in Olympia during the coming short legislative session, along with other organizations and individuals concerned with the growing problem of homelessness. We especially appreciated the fact that JTNews emphasized the gravity of this issue by placing the article on the front page, and providing detailed and accurate coverage of remarks by two of the speakers, John Fox and Bill Block, on the low-income housing crisis we’re experiencing.
We’d like to also mention that during the December 2 meeting, Alison Eisenger, executive director of the Seattle-King County Coalition on Homelessness and member of the Secular Jewish Circle, discussed the coming One Night Count of homeless persons in King County (to be held on January 25), and Ben Gitenstein, executive director of the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance, gave us valuable tips on lobbying in Olympia.
JTNews readers are invited to learn more about PSJCH or sign up for our e-mail list by visiting our wiki at http://psjch.wetpaint.com/. And join us in Olympia on February 14 for Housing Advocacy Day! Thanks again for the great article.
