Michael Feinstein’s “The Good Life”

Grammy-winning singer and pianist Michael Feinstein, along with his 17-piece big band, return to Seattle to present “The Good Life,” the second volume of his popular Sinatra Project. Hailed as the “Ambassador of the Great American Songbook,” Feinstein and his band will perform the music of Sinatra and his contemporaries, including Ella Fitzgerald, Nat “King” Cole and Rosemary Clooney.
At the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle. Tickets are available from $40 to $96 at www.seattlesymphony.org, by calling 206-215-4747, or by visiting the ticket office in Benaroya Hall.

Local Jewish artist Kathryn Altus’s work offers a unique blend of a postmodern Israel/Palestine in a Pacific Northwest setting, which has received high acclaim in local galleries and been featured at the Seattle Art Museum. Some of her work is currently being displayed as part of the Lisa Harris Gallery’s summer group show running through the end of the month.
Gallery hours are Monday—Saturday, 10:30 a.m.—5:30 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.—4 p.m.

Take in some folk, soul and rock from a true troubadour who recently shuffled out of Portland to once again hit the open road. It’s not that the youngish Jewish guy born Sean Scolnick languishes for the life of constant nomad, it’s that Slim interprets the pangs and passions of the modern world with vigor. He sings about his travels with a gutsy bluster that is endearing, involving and entertaining. His Tractor shows tend towards “drunken catharsis.”

Returning to her old stomping ground on Capitol Hill, Kate Bornstein joins us once again in Seattle to discuss and read from her new book, “Queer and Pleasant Danger.” Born a man, she served as lieutenant on the flagship vessel in the Church of Scientology’s fleet. Now, she’s a lesbian playwright, best known for her activism, writing, and witty performances, challenging people to re-examine their assumptions about gender. Her newest book is an account of the wild, weird, and terrible things that happened to her along the way.
