Misfire

By The National Council of Jewish Women Seattle Section, ,

The National Council of Jewish Women Seattle Section, was disappointed to see an ad in “The Shouk” section of the JTNews (May 16) selling “Superb Israeli Pistols.” This is the same issue with a front-page article about the [Naveed] Haq trial.
On its Web site, www.bultransmark.com, the 9mm BUL Cherokee is marketed as “understanding the needs and harsh demands of the law enforcement SWAT officer and the skillful spec-ops operator,” and “has a large magazine capacity.”  The ad was placed by a Nevada gun dealer. Nevada is a state that requires no background checks on firearm sales. Just about anyone, with the exception of a minor under the age of 18 (and even then, with no legally required background checks and, ordering through the mail, it is very possible a minor could purchase this weapon), would be able to purchase a gun from this seller.
Given the impact gun violence has had on our community — both by Naveed Haq at the Jewish Federation, and by Kyle Huff who killed seven people on Capitol Hill in 2006 — we hope that the JTNews will take our concerns to heart and refrain from running gun sale ads in the future.
