Shabbat across America
Temple Beth El in Tacoma will join approximately 700 synagogues across the continent in opening its doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews alike for an explanatory Shabbat service and traditional dinner on March 8. The service will be led by Rabbi Bruce Kadden and Cantor Brad Smith, and will be followed by an oneg and Israeli dancing. This event will take place from 6–10 p.m., Friday, March 8. Seattle Kollel scholar-in-residence Rabbi Yaakov Marcus presents a lecture on “Why We Dance: A Metaphysical Understanding.” Rabbi Marcus is a member of the rabbinical faculty of the Neve Yerushalayim College for women in Har Nof, Israel. Wandering urban pioneers
The Washington State Jewish Historical Society presents a two-part program on the reflections of Jewish settlers in Washington Territory. Julia Eulenberg will give a talk called “Through the eyes of an early Jewish historian, from wagon trains to Indian wars,” and Deborah Freedman will speak on “A tutorial on valuable resources for researching Territorial Washington, including court cases and newspapers.” This event takes place Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m., and is free. GoGirlGo! leadership invitational
GoGirlGo!, a health and leadership program for girls ages 8-18, will host a symposium on the effects of inactivity and obesity in young girls on Thursday, Feb. 28. A pediatrician and mental health professional will speak, and interested participants will learn how to start their own GoGirlGo! group. This event begins at 9:30 a.m. and is free.
