Visiting Israeli soldiers
LivingJudaism hosts two events with 12 Israeli veterans who were disabled while protecting Israel. On Fri., May 15, community members are invited to join the soldiers for Shabbat dinner at Congregation Ezra Bessaroth, 5217 S Brandon St., Seattle. Cost is $24 for adults, $18 for children. Service begins at 6:45 p.m., dinner at 7:45 p.m. On Sun., May 17 at 7 p.m., the soldiers will tell stories of their military service and share a video presentation about the Israel Defense Forces. AJWS writer’s fellowship
The American Jewish World Service is now accepting applications for its Dvar Tzedek Lisa Goldberg Memorial Writers’ Fellowship for 2009-2010. AJWS Dvar Tzedek Fellows receive a modest stipend and write weekly Torah commentaries relating to the Jewish imperative for social justice. The Dvar Tzedek currently reaches more than 4,000 people a week via e-mail. 2009 Raoul Wallenberg Dinner
The Nordic Heritage Museum’s 2009 Raoul Wallenberg Dinner is an annual event held in honor of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, whose efforts saved the lives of thousands during World War II. 2009 Wallenberg Dinner keynote speakers Dr. Marvin W. Makinen and Ari D. Kaplan will discuss their extensive research for the Swedish-Russian Working Group on the fate of Raoul Wallenberg. This event is presented in collaboration with the Washington State Jewish Historical Society, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, and the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center.
