An evening of appreciation for Israeli soldiers
Nine Israeli soldiers who were injured during the course of their military service will share their stories at an event sponsored by LivingJudaism. Annual Raoul Wallenberg Dinner
This annual event was initiated by State Senator Ken Jacobsen in honor of Swedish Diplomat Raoul Wallenberg to celebrate the connection between Jewish and Scandinavian communities. This year’s keynote speaker is Manli Ho, the daughter of Consul General Feng Shan Ho, who helped thousands of Jews escape from Vienna during World War II. For the past 10 years, Manli Ho has been researching and documenting her late father’s humanitarian work; she is currently working on his biography. Auschwitz survivor speaking at Hillel
Award-winning teacher and Auschwitz survivor Noémi Ban will share her story of survival. Ban was a winner of the 1997 Golden Apple teaching award, a 2001 recipient of an honorary doctorate from Gonzaga University, and the winner of the 2003 Washington Education Association Human and Civil Rights Award in the category of International Peace and Understanding. Although she is now retired, Ban continues visit classrooms to talk about her experience during the Holocaust. At 5:30 p.m., Tues., May 20 at Hillel at the UW, 4745 17th Ave. NE Seattle.
After the cyclone — assisting flood victims in Myanmar
With the death toll rising and the government putting up obstacles to getting help in, aid for the victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar/Burma is becoming more vital to ensure survival during post-storm outbreaks and the spread of water-borne illnesses.
The following Jewish organizations have set up special funds and are now accepting donations:

The Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, part of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, is collecting funds on a non-sectarian basis to aid the estimated several hundred thousand cyclone victims without shelter and safe drinking water.

B’nai B’rith International
B’nai B’rith will allocate $10,000 to help partner IsraAid send 10 relief workers, including paramedics, doctors, nurses, and water specialists, to Myanmar. The team is cooperating with the local United Nations office, as well as Israel’s embassy in the region.

MAZON’s fund will support the efforts of international relief agencies working in the region. The Irrawaddy Delta, including Yangon (Rangoon), the nation’s main city, is known as the cornucopia land, which yields most of the country’s rice and crops.
