Understanding hereditary cancer risk among Jewish women
At this complimentary luncheon, physicians from the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will share the latest information about the role genetics and family history play in the risk of breast and ovarian cancer among Jewish women – particularly those of Ashkenazi heritage. Jewish Chorale
Experienced vocalists sought for the Seattle Jewish Chorale, a community-wide performance choir launching this fall under the direction of Cantor Marina Belenky. The chorale’s repertoire will reflect the wide spectrum of Jewish musical traditions, including Italian Renaissance psalm settings, classical choral/orchestral works, Israeli pioneer songs, Yiddish theater music, contemporary “Jewish gospel” and Middle Eastern fusion. All voice parts are needed. Sight-reading ability and familiarity with Hebrew, Yiddish and/or Ladino are preferred, but not required. Connect With Your Teen
Beginning Sept. 25, Jodi McVittie, M.D., will lead a seven-week class on how to discipline, guide and support teenagers with kindness and firmness without being either overly permissive or punishing. Introduction to the music of the High Holy Days
Hillel UW will offer a class on the music and melodies of the High Holiday services. For those who are new to commemorating the High Holidays, it can be very helpful to be familiar with the melodies prior to diving into services. AIPAC Washington State annual membership dinner
This year’s annual AIPAC membership dinner will feature a panel discussion with Peter Beinart, editor-at-large for The New Republic, and Dan Senor, adjunct senior fellow for Middle East Studies, Council of Foreign Relations. The discussion is titled “Inside the Crystal Ball: How Will Election 2008 Re-Shape the American Political Scene?” Cost is $70.
