Pillar of fire

By Ken Shiovitz , , Seattle

Regarding the political cartoon by Steve Greenberg in which Senator Joe Lieberman heads alone into the wilderness as a pariah between two stone idols representing the dominant U.S. political parties (Nov. 28):
Do you hear that Joe? Look behind you and see the tens of millions of footsteps that follow yours in the sand. These folks do not agree with everything you say, but they understand that is exactly your point. They know that no one man or one party can have all the answers. They see your example that one should not hate another because of a difference in belief. They admire your courage.
Look Joe, some people are trying to turn the hewn stone visages to face the direction you are headed. And there, out across the barren earth, far away in the distant night sky, I think I can see it. It looks just like… a pillar of fire.
