Rosalie Sidell Steinbrecher, 80, died on December 30, 2006, after a lingering illness. She was born in Seattle on December 30, 1926.
Rosalie was a distinguished graduate of Garfield High School, where she was valedictorian of her class in 1944. She went on to the University of Washington, graduating in 1948 as a social worker. She received the Phi Beta Kappa award and was second in her class. After graduation, she was employed by the University of Washington and the state as a social worker, and later worked for Jewish Family Service. In 1958, she married Dr. Kurt Steinbrecher. They had a son, Loren.
At one time, she worked for the first shelter operated by the Salvation Army for battered women. She also worked with high school students who returned to school, giving them training for employment. She was also a volunteer at Virginia Mason Hospital, where she counseled relatives of patients in the hospital. Rosalie was always friendly and interested in family. She was a member of Hadassah and Mizrachi Women.
The Steinbrechers were one-time members of Bikur Cholim and later Emanuel Congregation. At the time of her death, they were members of Congregation Shaarei Tefilah Lubavitch.
