Want to get out of the Christmas rut when everything but a select few restaurants and the movie theater are open? Here are a few suggestions that go beyond the “traditional” activity of Chinese food and a movie.

Latkepalooza!

Yes, yes, we know that Hanukkah will have been over for almost three weeks by the 25th, but what else would they call it — Santa’sHangoverPalooza? This is that one time of year, besides the High Holidays, anyway, that you can see all the people who live around the corner from you yet you never call, even though you say you will. And, unlike Yom Kippur, there’s alcohol. And a DJ. And dancing. If you’re under the age of 40 and don’t need to worry about kids (or you can get a sitter), the HG Lodge at 722 E Pike St. in Capitol Hill is the place to be on Saturday night. This night will be on fire, and we say that only because the money raised will go toward relief for the region in northern Israel devastated by forest fire earlier this month. Moo Shoo, Matzoh Balls, and a Couple of Wise Guys!

The folks who put on this Jewish Christmas Eve party last year are doing it again. Get a little of everything with this new Jewish holiday tradition: A festive evening starting with Shabbat candle lighting,
followed by a Chinese food buffet spread, a screening of the Gene Wilder/Harrison Ford classic The Frisco Kid, acoustic Yiddish’eh music, Jewish musical sketch comedy, and probably, somehow, some dancing will break out. Who thought Christmas without presents under the tree could be so fun? At The Little Red Bistro, 400 Dexter Ave. North in Seattle. Tickets $20 at BrownPaperTickets.com or $30 at the door. Starts at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 24.

Yoga!

Yoga instructor Gordon Kaplan is keeping the studio open on Dec. 25. He’ll hold one 90-minute class, from 10:30 a.m.–noon, at Yoga Centers in Bellevue. This will be a class for all levels, but Gordon says this will not not the ideal venue for raw beginners — some previous experience is best. New students should arrive with enough time to fill out require registration paperwork. At Yoga Ceters, 2255 140th Ave. NE, Bellevue. The session costs $17.
