The Nordic Heritage Museum in Ballard is hosting this month a show of photographs documenting Nazi concentration camps and death camps and sites related to the Holocaust in Denmark and Europe.
The show, “A World of Terror,” features the work of Seattle-based photographer Rudy Brueggemann, who took the show’s 54 black and white and color images over a two-month period last summer in five European countries.
In addition to documenting the Nazis’ crimes against humanity, Brueggemann’s pictures share the story of Danish resistance. In October 1943, more than 7,000 Danish Jews escaped a nationwide Nazi round-up and were safely boat-lifted to neutral Sweden. Each year, the Nordic Heritage Museum remembers those who suffered under one of the 20th century’s most brutal dictatorships. A highlight to the month-long remembrance was the Raoul Wallenberg dinner on May 3.
The Nordic Heritage Museum is located at 3014 N.W. 67th St., Seattle. Brueggemann’s photographs can also be seen on the photographer’s Web site, www.rudyfoto.com.
