Ronald Toston samples a sprig of karpas at a Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation seder, led by Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum for nearly 40 staff members and residents of the Union Gospel Mission on April 1. Synagogue members volunteer at the mission each month, and Rabbi Rosenbaum said he thought it was a way for the two groups to connect with each other. “It seemed right because Passover’s the holiday that anyone who’s struggling to create a new life for themselves can relate to,” he said.
