Art and science intersect at Weizmann event

The Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington is presenting a major traveling exhibit linking art and science. “Gene(sis): Contemporary Art Explores Human Genomics” features the work of more than 20 artists, showcasing works created in direct response to recent developments in human genomics.
“Gene(sis)” seeks to encourage public discourse and deeper understanding of genomics and its potential impact on our lives. In conjunction with the exhibit, the Pacific Northwest Region of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (ACWIS) will sponsor a gala dinner, A Celebration of Science and Art, on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Henry Art Gallery.
Special guest speaker, Weizmann Institute president, Prof. Ilan Chet, a worldwide expert in microbiology, will give an update on research at the Weizmann Institute. Dr. Lee Hartwell, 2001 Nobel Laureate in medicine, and president and director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will discuss genomics. Noted artist Catherine Wagner, one of Time magazine’s “100 Innovators,” whose photographs are featured in the exhibition, will also speak.
