JCC to elect officers and board at annual meeting

By , Special to JTNews

The Stroum Jewish Community Center (JCC) holds its 44th Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Mercer Island Facility (3801 E. Mercer Way, Mercer Island). The JCC will elect its officers and board of directors for fiscal year 2001—2002, and honor outgoing board members, key benefactors, and outstanding volunteers.
The community is invited to attend the event, which includes a light kosher meal. Cost begins at $18. Call Amy Horton at 206-232-7115, ext. 304, to RSVP.
Nominated for a three-year term on the JCC board are Edith Rothenberg, Pam Schwartz, and Stephanie Sherman.
Schwartz grew up at the JCC, and her two children are recent graduates of the JCC’s Early Childhood Services (ECS) program. She served as Procurement Chair for the Night & Day fund-raiser in 2001. Schwartz’s strength lies in leadership roles: “I’m able to delegate and work together with other people,” she said. She plans to help spearhead the annual fund-raising campaign again in 2002.
An active volunteer in several organizations, Rothenberg has been involved with procurement for the ECS annual Art Show and Nosh fund-raisers, and handled patron sales for Night & Day. Her twin boys, now age 6, graduated from the ECS program. “I’m super-excited and honored to be asked to join the board,” said Rothenberg, who looks forward to using her background in human resources management and recruiting to galvanize JCC fund-raising efforts.
Stephanie Sherman participated in JCC activities in her youth and has one child currently enrolled in ECS. Sherman, who holds an M.B.A. in marketing, served as an ECS room-parent and volunteer for the Nosh fund-raiser. She was also responsible for decorations for the “Night & Day” event. “I’m a big proponent of the JCC and would like to see more people my age join — and not just for their children,” said Sherman, adding that membership is an important way to “reconnect to the Jewish community.” Sherman hopes to use her background in sales to promote the “J.”
Officers nominated for a new, one-year term include Paul Etsekson, president; Stuart Weinstein, vice president; Stuart Williams, vice president; David Rind, vice president; Alan Tesler, secretary; Leon Grundstein, treasurer; and Carol Harris, past president. Also continuing in office are board members Rusty Federman, Bruce Glant, Gerda Lawrence, Judi Mildeberger, Becca Moss, Leslie Redd, Sherri Richman Chanen, Wendy Rosen, Lindsey Schwartz, Deborah Simonds, Marc Sloan and Jay Wampold.
