Following the recommendations of its Strategic Planning Committee, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society has taken steps to increase the productivity and recognition of the organization by hiring a part-time executive director and establishing a free-standing office.
Susan Levine, who had been the coordinator of WSJHS’s Jewish Archives Project (housed at the University of Washington’s Allen Library), has been promoted to the executive director position. At the same time, the society has moved into offices at 2917 N.E Blakeley Street in Seattle. The phone number for WSJHS remains the same, 206-443-1903. The e-mail address is [email protected].
Levine will be in the society’s new office on Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 until 5, and Thursday from 8:30 until 3. On Tuesday she will continue at the Jewish Archives at the University of Washington Libraries, 206-543-1895.
In announcing these developments, Arnold Robbins, president of the WSJHS, said, “We are excited about the enormous possibilities that have been opened to the society through the availability of a dedicated professional.”
Levine added that she sees her role as making the WSJHS more active and more visible in the community. Her first efforts, she said, will be to develop public programs and to reach out to all segments of the state’s Jewish population.
