Holocaust speaker
On Holocaust Remembrance Day, survivor Noémi Ban will share her story about surviving the Birkenau concentration camp. Questions for Ban can be submitted in advance to Ray Wolpow, director of the Northwest Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Ethnocide Education at Western Washington University. Fellowships for Nesiya Institute
The Samis Foundation of Seattle is now providing fellowships of $7,000 for up to 10 Washington State Jewish high school students to participate in the Nesiya Institute’s six-week summer program in Israel and its weeklong winter retreat on the East Coast of the United States. Students in grades 10-12 are eligible to apply. The deadline is May 18, 2009. Interested parents and teens are encouraged to attend information sessions about the Nesiya Institute on Wed., April 22 or Thurs, April 23. Location provided upon RSVP. Financial workshops
As a response to the current economic situation, Jewish Family Service is offering a series of workshops on financial literacy. Part one is on budgeting and takes place on Thurs., April 23 from 6-8 p.m. Part two is on managing credit and will be held on Thurs., May 7 from 6-8 p.m. Both sessions are free. J-Serve 2009
J-Serve is the national day of Jewish teen service, in conjunction with the National Youth Service Day. Teens from every youth movement and denomination are encouraged to participate. Seattle Mussar Kallah
Congregation Beth Shalom hosts a workshop entitled “Mussar – Light of Torah – Practical Guidance for Manifesting our Finest Selves” about the practical set of teachings for cultivating personal growth in day-to-day life offered within Mussar. Workshop leaders include Dr. Alan Morinis, founder of the Mussar Institute; Rabbi David Lapin, founder of www.iawaken.org, a Web site that brings together Torah and personal relationships; and Rivy Poupko Kletenik, head of school at the Seattle Hebrew Academy.
