Seattle Kollel anniversary dinner

YLD Main Event
The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s Young Leadership Division hosts its annual Main Event on Thurs., May 21 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Night in Vegas” and will feature games of craps and Texas Hold’em as well as champagne, hors d’oeuvres and a chocolate tasting courtesy of Chocolopolis. “Hats Off to a Century of Scholarship”
The Seattle Section of the National Council of Jewish Women has been assisting Jewish students with vocational and academic scholarships for degree program tuition since 1909. Everyone attending their century celebration event is encouraged to wear a hat reflective of any decade between 1909 and 2009. Attendees will “tip their hats” to past and present scholarship recipients. Deborah Feldman, reporter for Seattle’s KING-5 News, will emcee the event, and the keynote speaker is University of Washington provost Phyllis M. Wise. “Honoring Our Parents: Understanding Aging, Finding Support”
Understanding changes in aging parents is important to help them connect with the most suitable resources. What is normal aging and what might be part of an illness? How can you detect depression or substance abuse? What services are available and how much do they cost? This workshop, hosted by Jewish Family Service, will provide information for planning ahead and working with adult parents to make informed decisions. Advance registration encouraged.
