Political liberalization in the Persian Gulf
Joshua Teitelbaum, senior research fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University, will give a talk called “Political Liberalization in the Persian Gulf and What That Means for Possible Relations with Israel.” This event is sponsored by the University of Washington’s Middle East Center and Jewish Studies Program. Free and open to the public. At 12:35 p.m., Friday, May 30 at the University of Washington, Communications Building, Room 202.

Teens Shavuot climb of Mount Si
Teens are invited to join rabbinic intern Olivier BenHaim of Bet Alef Meditative Synagogue for a hike up Mount Si, followed by a Torah study session of the 10 utterances in honor of Shavuot. Sports and Jewish values essay contest
The Center for Sport and Jewish Life is sponsoring its fourth annual essay contest on the relationship between sports and Jewish values. This year’s topic is “What Does it Take to Succeed in Sports?” The contest is open to students in grades 6–12. Essays should incorporate a discussion of Jewish values, teachings from the Torah, or other Jewish texts or practices. Winners will be awarded U.S. savings bonds.
