Help the hungry
From Rosh Hashanah to Thanksgiving, Seattle Jewish community members of all ages will participate in Food Drive 2007, an annual event sponsored by Jewish Family Service to benefit its food bank program. The food drive is the largest in the Puget Sound region that raises food solely for one food bank. It is also one of the few local communal activities that brings together Jews of every background, from the unaffiliated and secular to the Orthodox and everything in between. Those wishing to donate can do so through their participating synagogue or contact JFS to arrange a drop off.
On Sept. 23, the day after Yom Kippur, JFS will hold its annual food sort event in conjunction with the fall food drive. This event draws over 200 volunteers, including whole families and youth groups, who spend several hours unloading and sorting food that has been donated during Rosh Hashanah and the intermediate days. Those wishing to volunteer must pre-register for this event by contacting Jane Deer-Hileman at 206-461-3240 ext. 3155 or volunteer@jfsseattle.org.

Help the homeless
The Homeless to Renter Program at Temple Beth Am enables homeless families to move into permanent rental housing by assisting with security deposits, utility activation fees, and other move-in expenses. Support for the program is generated by fundraising events and year-round contributions.
On Sept. 30 at 7 p.m., Temple Beth Am invites the community to Simchat Sukkot, an annual benefit for the H2R Program. Tim Harris, executive director of Real Change, will be the featured speaker. Delicious savories, sweets, wine and beverages will be served. The minimum donation for the evening is $18. For more information, contact 206-525-0915 or temple@templebetham.org. At Temple Beth Am, 2632 NE 80th St., Seattle.

Help women
The National Council of Jewish Women Seattle will host an open house on Sun., Sept. 9 from 2–5 p.m. to kickoff the New Year.
