Jewish Federation community dinner
The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle will host its annual community dinner on Mon., Sept. 22. This event will feature actor Joshua Malina, who starred in “The West Wing” and “Sports Night.” Rebecca and Jack Benaroya will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Eastside Torah Center gala
The Eastside Torah Center is celebrating its “Bar Mitzvah” in honor of 13 years of serving the Bellevue community. Rabbi Mordechai Farkash will host the evening’s events with the help of Cantor Rabbi Zalmen Baumgarten. Community member Karen Mannering will also be honored for her years of dedication to the enrichment of Jewish life in the Northwest and throughout the world. Gaucher Disease advocacy meeting
The National Gaucher Foundation presents an advocacy meeting for family members of Gaucher Disease sufferers. Speakers will include Dr. Pamela Becker, who will give a talk on “Emerging Therapies for Gaucher Disease,” and Dr. Nooshin Darvish, N.D., who will speak about “Transforming Lives from Within.” Gaucher Disease is a lysosomal storage disease that can result in spleen and liver malfunction, skeletal disorders and neurological complications. Challah baking class
The National Council of Jewish Women and Temple B’nai Torah will host a hands-on challah making class taught by PCC bread making instructor and NCJW member Ronit Gourarie. The class will focus on round challah for Rosh Hashanah as well as braiding techniques. Class size limited to 20 people. Suggested donation of $5. For more information or to RSVP, contact Lauren B. Gay fathers workshop
Jewish Family Service and Feather Boa Fathers will host a discussion called “Discipline from the Heart,” with emphasis on effective and sensitive ways to respond to children’s behavior.
