By H. Eric Schockman, Ph.D. , President, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger,
For the past seven years, you have joined together as a community to support MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger’s work to end hunger at an annual Hanukkah party. The continued success of this event is due in no small part to the tireless leadership of Rabbi Jim Mirel and the gracious generosity of Miriam and Pip Meyerson, who helped launch the tradition and whose company, Matzoh Momma Catering, donates the food. As well as all the event sponsors: American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League, Bet Alef Meditational Synagogue, Congregation Bet Chaverim, Congregation Beth Shalom, Jewish Family Service, Temple B’nai Torah, Temple Beth Am, Temple Beth El, Temple Beth Or, Temple De Hirsch Sinai and UW Hillel. And a very special thank you to JTNews for its dedication to MAZON and the event.
Unfortunately, this year’s event was cancelled due to inclement weather. Although I was disappointed that I could not celebrate the miracle of Hanukkah with you, you have rallied together to make miracles for those who are hungry by still joining together to raise money for MAZON’s efforts. For this, I am eternally grateful. Your support enables MAZON to provide nourishment to thousands of families to help them lead better and healthier lives.
I thank you all for being our partners and for your tireless efforts to end hunger in the United States and throughout the world. I look forward to seeing you this December, hopefully on a sunny day, to celebrate Hanukkah.
