The purpose of our [gun sales] ad appearing in the JTNews at the time of the Haq trial was precisely to offer your readers the option of defending themselves against evil people and criminals who have guns (duh!). This right, of course, was recently upheld by the Supreme Court. The NCJW letter (July 11) represents the classic liberal, narrow-minded, uneducated approach to the firearms issue.
It goes without saying that had a security officer or some other Federation staff person with appropriate firearms training and licenses been present — there would have been an excellent chance of preventing the tragic loss of life and injuries. The NCJW emotional reaction and their “fantasy” of Nevada State firearms regulations only highlights their ignorance of U.S. firearms laws.
The letter states that “Nevada is a state that requires no background checks on firearm sales.” In reality, the state of Nevada, like all states, conforms to federal regulations in these matters. All sales are subject to FBI background checks. Mail orders are subject to longstanding federal interstate transfer requirements. All orders from Nevada dealers must be mailed via specially regulated carriers to a licensed federal firearm dealer in Washington State, and picked up in person there.
The Seattle NCJW should also be aware that the City of Seattle Police Department openly encourages law-abiding residents in good standing to apply for concealed weapon permits as is published on their Web site. Background checks are performed — but no training is required in Seattle! Nevada, however, requires six hours of classroom instruction and three hours of practical training at the range, before a CDW is issued by the Sheriff’s Dept.
Jews, of all people, with their long and continued history of physical endangerment, should gladly exercise their right as Americans to protect their lives, and Maccabi Arms (a Jewish-owned firm) can provide the best weapons to do that. As Jews, we should support Israel — who happen the make the best weapons available — and protect ourselves. The BUL Cherokee 9mm pistol meets both of those needs.
