On Wednesday, Aug. 15, after 10 weeks of riding, 30 cyclists on the Hazon Cross-USA bike ride arrived in Washington, D.C. and ceremoniously dipped their bikes into the water at the Georgetown Waterfront Park. The ride originated in Seattle on June 7.
Hazon is a Jewish environmental organization, and this 12th annual ride raised money in support of sustainable food systems. The riders raised over $150,000 and met with farmers, policy makers, rabbis, USDA representatives, and Jewish communities across the country, sharing stories and interactions to help facilitate change in the American food system.
According to one participant, “We visited Jewish communities in Missoula, Helena, Bozeman, Billings, Spokane, Aberdeen, and the Twin Cities…They greeted us with open arms and I think were energized by this Jewish group that was celebrating Jewish life, supporting environmental change, and cycling across the country.”
