I agree with the letter writer (“Taking up too much space,” Sept. 16) who said we must not permit agents of our enemies to use our limited resources (i.e., print space in JTNews). And we should not forget that we do have enemies, and not just in our ancient homeland. I think it was Golda Meir who said something along the line, “We will have peace with the Palestinians when the Palestinians start to love their children more than they hate us.”
When I was a younger man I was quite taken with the peace process and at the time of the Oslo Accords I designed an emblem for the Peace Now movement and even married an Arab-American woman from Libya. I was quite an idealist. Now, I have an Orthodox son, his wife, and two grandchildren in the enemy’s crosshairs, not far from Jerusalem. I am wondering if they, too, are too young and idealistic, although from a very different perspective. Remember to “love all Israel” and “united we stand,” and just don’t forget what team you’re playing for. If we allow ourselves to forget who we are and why we’re here, then God help us.
