Produce checking update

By The Board of Rabbis , Va’ad HaRabbanim of Greater Seattle ,

The Va’ad policies for produce checking were formulated after months of investigation and collecting data concerning locally available produce. Our mashgichim, who were specially trained to check produce, checked the produce on a daily basis and kept records of what they found. On this basis, the Va’ad determined the reality of infestation in various types of produce available locally and developed and tested methods to clean and check produce.
It is important to note that the Va’ad carefully worked with all establishments to identify, evaluate, and choose the most appropriate policies and procedures for cleaning and checking produce. During this time, establishments were not charged for increased mashgiach time due to these efforts (except, on occasion, caterers). The Va’ad has already borne and continues to bear significant costs for these charges while we work out the most cost effective arrangements with each establishment. Should anyone want to learn more about this process, the resulting policies and procedures, or any other related matters, please contact Al Maimon at 206-200-4059 or [email protected].
