SHA gathers enough money to open preschool

By , Special to JTNews

The Seattle Hebrew Academy announces the (re)opening of its Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) at its north Capitol Hill site. The program, once operated by SHA, has just completed a two-year association with the Stroum Jewish Community Center.
Rabbi Shmuel Kay, SHA head of school, and proponent of early childhood education is “delighted with the SHA Board’s decision to welcome the preschoolers back into the SHA family. This is a fantastic program which will serve our school and the entire community well.”
The ECEC program will offer a developmentally appropriate program for children 2, 3, and 4 years of age (by August 31). The children will be provided opportunities to explore their Jewish world through a variety of small and large motor activities, while also developing school readiness and social skills. Bayla Friedman Treiger, program director, is “thrilled that this program will operate next year, so that we have the opportunity to continue the relationships that have developed among the children, their families and the teachers.”
It was the enthusiasm of the early childhood families, who together with a grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, made sure the program would continue. The families demonstrated their commitment by waiting patiently for the academy to make its decision regarding adoption of the early childhood program, donating money to offset the program’s projected deficit, and offering verbal support on the program’s behalf at the meeting between parents and the SHA Executive Committee held on May 22.
Program inquiries and requests for registration materials may be directed to Treiger at 206-323-5750, ext. 231.
