Temple Beth Am will be sponsoring its 5th Annual Mini-University during the month of February, 2001. This program of adult study features college level courses taught by experts in their fields which are designed to broaden and deepen one’s knowledge of Judaism.
This year, Mini-University will have eight class offerings with three on consecutive Wednesdays, three on consecutive Thursdays and, for the first time, two daytime courses. The evening class schedule is as follows:
“Myth and the Hebrew Bible” taught by David Dawson, “The Jews of Muslim and Christian Spain” taught by Jonathan Decter, and “The Holocaust” taught by Robert L. Herschkowitz, all on Wednesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 7 to 9 p.m.
On Thursdays, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., students may choose from “A Survey of Rabbinic Literature” taught by David Seidenberg, “Franz Rosenzweig: The Search for the Hidden” taught by Doug Slotnick and “The Literature of Jewish Migration and American Immigration” taught byJoseph Butwin.
During the day, on Wednesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 1 — 2:30 p.m., Monica S. Devens will teach “The History of the Hebrew Language.” On Thursdays, Feb. 1, 8. 15 and 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Elana Zaiman will teach “Biblical Women and Beyond.”
